People living with Parkinson’s are being invited to attend activities being held at the Charing Cross Sports Club on Aspenlea Road (W6 8LH).

A regular Tai chi class is given by Hanna Luna, an experienced Tai chi instructor, who can accommodate all ages and levels of mobility. The class takes place every Tuesday from 2.15pm to 3pm and costs £5 per person per class.

Tai chi has been shown to have many benefits for people living with Parkinson’s, including better mindfulness, coordination, balance and wellbeing, among many others. Tai chi is also shown to have a positive effect on motor and non-motor symptoms, especially gait, balance, and cognition. The Tai chi class has been specially designed for people living with Parkinson's and Hanna can consider individual abilities and needs.

The exercises are available either as standing or seated activities and the gym has step free access to changing rooms.

The class is designed to be social, friendly and above all, fun with carers and family members also welcome to attend and join in. There is also a chance for people to stay for a coffee and a catch-up in a nearby café.

People living with Parkinson’s can also now attend regular aqua aerobics class a warm and shallow pool at the Charing Cross Sports Club. The classes are hosted by Jolanta, an experienced aqua aerobics teacher who is trained to support people with Parkinson’s and can accommodate all ages and levels of mobility, while also helping to challenge your body and mind. The class is held on Mondays from 11 to 11.45am for £5 per person per class.

The aqua aerobics can help people to work on their cardio health, while improving strength and balance as well. The class is specifically designed for people living with Parkinson’s and the emphasis is on being active in a fun and social way, and at your own pace.

Carers and family members are also welcome to either take part or to watch the class and the group often stays for a coffee and a catch-up at a local café. The swimming pool is only accessible by ladder, so if you think that this may cause difficulties then please let a member of staff know.

There are also warm and comfortable gender separated communal changing rooms and showers. You will need to bring your own towel, toiletries, and swimwear.
