Fulham’s Wandsworth Bridge Road is enjoying a major revival this spring, with a spate of new launches, including four independent cafes, bringing new life to long empty premises.
The newcomers opened their doors in time to join the road’s established eateries serving up food and drink to the crowds attending the annual Spring Fayre on Sunday May 11.
The fayre, now in its fourth year, attracted thousands of local people who enjoyed strolling in the spring sunshine along the traffic free road - this time extended from its junction with Ryecroft Street all the way to its southern junction with Townmead Road.
The extra space meant the fayre offered a bumper 165 market stalls selling street food and drinks, jewellery, clothes, arts and crafts and much more. There was music throughout the day on two stages and two busking pods, as well as a maypole, climbing wall, skate park, cycling zone, a programme of children’s activities and a fun dog show run by the road’s Wolfe Vets.
Taking part in the fayre for the first time were the road’s newest arrivals - Cafe Two, which has moved in to number 90, offering premium coffee, pastries and handcrafted sandwiches; cake specialist Corni and Crumble, now at 120; Pinch, "Fulham’s feel good vegan spot’ at 176, and Muntjac Bakery and Coffee, which has transformed the dilapidated corner shop at number 162.

Along with firm favourites like the Bridge Baker, Bon Bon, Carbon Kopi and Namaste Coffee and more recent very popular additions including The Toastie Shop, cookie specialist Sable and veggie ice cream shop Scooperb, South Fulham foodies are spoilt for choice this summer.
What’s more, all these cafes, plus the road’s restaurants Joe’s Brasserie, Fulham Wine and Kitchen, Fulham Indian, Typhoon and of course Il Pagliaccio, have space to sit outside on sunny days and warm evenings.
Wandsworth Bridge Road Association, which organises the Fayre each year, says that, while the local environment is already much improved, making it more pleasant for people to walk, cycle and gather in the open air, this is only the start, as it is looking at long-term initiatives to make South Fulham a vibrant, pedestrian and cycle-friendly, ’15-min Village’ destination.
Representatives were on hand at the fayre discussing the plans and asking people for their views, and it is also encouraging residents to speak up by completing a short survey.
The association says: “ Help us understand what is important to YOU – either as a local resident or as a business owner. The survey takes about 10 mins to complete. Your input is very important to us.”
You can find and complete the survey here.
