Woman Dies in Fulham After Car Chase


Police were responding to reports of a drone being flown near Wandsworth prison

A woman has died in a road traffic collision in Fulham in the early hours of this morning (9 August). The driver of the car is reported to be in a critical condition.

The police were called to Groom Crescent near Wandsworth Prison following reports of a drone being flown near the prison grounds at around 3.04am.

As they arrived a car was seen to leave the scene which they followed. At 3.10am the car was involved in a collision in Ashcombe Street at the junction of Wandsworth Bridge Road in Fulham. At this stage, it is believed no other vehicle was involved.

One occupant of the car, a woman in her twenties, was pronounced dead at the scene. She has yet to be formally identified but police are in the process of informing next-of-kin.

The other occupant of the car, the driver, a man believed to be aged in his twenties, was taken to a west London hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

No arrests have been made.

Roads in the local area have been closed.

The Met's Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) were informed and the latter is carrying out an independent investigation as is normal in these circumstances.
