Organisations involved in health, sport and culture to receive up to £1,000 each
Westfield has officially announced the eight successful applicants of its community grants scheme. The local organisations that will each be awarded funding of up to £1000 to implement community projects are:
• The Hammersmith and Fulham Volunteer Centre
• Fulham Good Neighbours
• The London Sports Trust
• Lido Foundation
• The Urban Partnership Group
• The Foundation for Women’s Health Research and Development
• The Bhavan
• Kensington Athletic AFC
Westfield launched the community grants initiative at the beginning of the year as part of the community programme within its expansion plans. The scheme reflects Westfield’s commitment to ensure that investment in the shopping centre is felt across the local area.
The Westfield community grants scheme supports local organisations who are looking for funding of up to £1,000 with up to 20 projects being selected per year over the next two years.
Commenting on the first round of funding, Duncan Bower, Director of Development at Westfield, said: " We are excited about supporting eight impactful projects that will make a real difference in our local community.
" Since opening in 2008, Westfield London has delivered very significant investment and 12,000 jobs to the W12 area. Further investment continues with the centre expansion and thousands of more jobs creating opportunities.
" We very much hope that the community grants scheme will contribute to making this success story felt across our local neighborhoods”.
The final funding decision is taken by the Westfield community grants panel, which includes representatives of the Hammersmith and Fulham Council, Big Local, the Edward Woods Community Centre, Resurgo Trust, the Bush Theatre and Westfield.
Councillor Sue Macmillan, Hammersmith and Fulham Labour councillor, said: "Supporting local charities is a key priority for us, so I was pleased to take part in the Westfield community grants panel.
"I have been inspired by the incredible applications received from a number of diverse and worthwhile local causes. The local community will continue to benefit hugely from Westfield's contribution through these grants and I'm looking forward to judging the next round of applications soon."
Dominic Pinkney, Chief Executive at the Hammersmith & Fulham Volunteer Centre, said: "We are delighted to receive the Westfield community grant, which will be used to help isolated and excluded local residents to engage in the community and find employment. With the help of this grant, our digital inclusion programme will open up a world of opportunities for hundreds of local people."
The next round of funding will take place in Winter 2016/17. Local organisations from the north of the borough should submit their applications via the grants application website.
Successful bids should fit with at least one of three separate themes:
Innovative and creative approaches to employment and training;
Opportunities for young people aged 16-24; and
Support for people with disabilities or health problems.
