Public advised to take extreme care
The UK is now officially experiencing its worst winter in 30years, according to the Met Office, and recurring snowfalls and subzero temperatures are being widely forecast for at least the next 10 days.
With the big freeze continuing, Hammersmith and Fulham Council has issued this update on local services on Thursday, January at 6pm.
Roads and pavements
In Hammersmith & Fulham, council gritters have been working flat out to put rock salt on priority roads and pavements. Weather permitting, the current plan is to routinely grit the priority routes to enable essential services - including refuse and recycling collections - to be delivered.
The council’s stock of grit remains adequate for essential purposes and key roads and pavements are being prioritised as stocks are not inexhaustible. The council regrets that - like other London boroughs - we are currently unable to grit many local footpaths because of the reducing salt stocks and the unlikelihood of getting more deliveries within the next fortnight because of the situation nationally.
Refuse and recycling
Refuse and recycling collections were suspended on Thursday due to the treacherous conditions. The collection of Christmas trees has also been suspended for the time being. It is planned that, weather permitting, refuse and recyling collections will resume on Friday and Thursday collections made up on Saturday. Our apologies for any inconvenience caused.
School closures
- Fulham Primary School, St John's Walham Green CofE Primary School and Sulivan Primary School are closed due to issues caused by the snow.
- Bentworth Primary School is closed today and tomorrow. This is not a snow related closure, but is due to an electrical installation problem.
If the bad weather does continue you are advised to call your child's school direct to check whether it is open. School contact details here.
H&F Direct
The H&F Direct reception and phones covering benefits, council tax, cashiers, blue badges and Pay and Park closed at 5:00pm due to the severe weather conditions. Our apologies for any inconvenience caused.
