Riverside Exhibition Shows Work by Local Father and Son

Dennis Dracup includes dad's Antony's art alongside his own

Father and son artists Antony and Dennis Dracup from Ealing will be reunited in an exhibition taking place this weekend on Hammersmith's riverside.

The exhibition will show off film-maker, installation artist, painter and musician Dennis's own work, but will also showcase the work of his dad Anthony, who died in 2002.

Dennis says: '' I am showing my own work in the same space as my father this time. A bit 'chalk and cheese' but the connections are there  -apart from being his son - I used to accompany my father down to the Grand Union Canal with a barrow to collect scrap that he would turn into useful objects.

"In my installation I'm collecting iron from the foreshore at Hammersmith to be rusted onto paper as an ongoing process during the exhibition. So there must have been an influence there...''

The exhibition launches this weekend on May 26 and 27 and continues daily till 10 June from 10am - 5pm in the Riverside Buildng, an unoccupied office which has become the home for many creative people hosting their work as well as workshops and providing studio space under the umbrella of Uthinkpdp.org

Arts based charity Uthink pdp - short for People Developing People - provides affordable studio space, workshops and exhibitions for artists of all disciplines in the building, off Fulham Palace's Road.

As well as this current exhibition, the charity is now lining up traditional, installation and performance art in the four storey building, which was formerly home to an advertising company and it is also one of the official venues for the HF ArsFest, which begins on 2 June.

The programme for the next three months includes classes covering a wide range of subjects including drawing and painting, filmmaking and creating home-made cards and polymer flowers. There are also storytelling business book camps aimed at local start ups.

In addition, everyone is welcome to pop in to the building and have a look around. The charity says there are artists-in-residence working most days, including painters, a fashion designer, film makers and musicians.

The building has also been made an official venue for events during HF ArtsFest, and Uthink is urging local people to volunteer to help with stewarding and showing guests around.
