Hammersmith's famous River Cafe has been given the dubious accolade of Most Overpriced Restaurant in the new edition of Harden's London Restaurants.

In the 24th edition of the guide, the riverside restaurant, whose celebrity diners recently included actor George Clooney and his new bride Amal and Stella McCartney and her husband Alasdhair Willis was slammed by the guide as "overcrowded" and "impersonal" with "uneventful" dishes coming at "merciless prices".

The River Cafe, which retained its Michelin Star in this year's Michelin Guide, has been a Hammersmith favourite since its launch in 1987  in the former Duckhams oil storage facility in Rainville Road, which was modified by architect Lord Rogers, the husband of Ruth Rogers who owned and ran the cafe with partner Rose Gray until Rose's death in 2010.

Today its typical menu shows starters priced from around £20 and main courses between £35 and £40. And if you fancy a pudding, three scoops of ice cream costs £12.

Other local restaurants were judged more favourably by Harden's. Fulham's Harwood Arms pub , which also retained its Michelin star this year, was third in the Best Bar/Pub Food category and also in Fulham, the Sukho Fine Thai Cuisine on Fulham Road came fourth among restaurant's with meals priced between £50 and £64 in London's Highest Rated Restaurants for Food.

Harden's London Restaurants 2015 is in shops now or from Hardens.
