Traditional recipe is winner at "Olympics of the Oggy"
West Cornwall Pasty Co's "traditional" pasty has been crowned the best at the Eden Project's annual World Pasty Championships.
Beating off stiff competition from over 150 entrants, the popular pasty was the favourite among 30 judges, made up of local dignitaries, foodies and representatives from the industry.
West Cornwall Pasty Co, which has a kiosk in Fulham Broadway and a store in Hammersmith Broadway, says its traditional pasty is crammed with only the finest ingredients including the very best farm-fresh potatoes, swedes and onions with beef sourced from the British Isles and the Republic of Ireland.
Each entry in the Cornish Pasty category at the one day Championship, which is also nicknamed the Olympics of the Oggy, has to comply with PGI, or Protected Geographical Indication - guidelines - D shaped, crimped on one side - never on top - and made in Cornwall. West Cornwall Pasty Co's baking partners are WC Rowe who are based in Penryn.
The company's CEO Steve Gipson says: " We are delighted to have won this prestigious award. It has always been our aim to serve the most authentic, hand-made pasties throughout our stores nationwide and this award recognises that."
