Hammersmith Flyover Repairs Begin Today
Night work between 9pm and 5am will last till November 1
The next phase of maintenance work to the Hammersmith Flyover begins today, Tuesday October 29 and is due to last until November 1.
The work will take place between 9pm and 5am - timing Transport for London says is designed to keep road disruption to a minimum.
TfL says construction giant Costain will lower the kerbs underneath the flyover to allow access for vehicles and to install scaffolding and hoarding for future strengthening works to the flyover.
During the times when the works at Hammersmith Bridge Road taking place;
- The north bound bus lane will be closed with temporary traffic management
- Temporary fencing will be erected to segregate pedestrians from work areas.
- Noisy works, such as breaking concrete, will be carried out between 9pm and 11pm. Other less noisier activities will continue until 5am.
Once the works have been completed, the area will be left with temporary hoarding for duration of the main works to the flyover.
Following on from the first phase of work delivered in spring 2012, TfL says this final maintenance will extend the life of the structure for years to come.
During the works, the remaining 11 of the flyover’s 16 spans will be strengthened in a similar fashion to the five spans that were strengthened last year. The bearings carrying the structure will also be replaced, carriageway drainage will be renewed and the entire flyover waterproofed and resurfaced to reduce the need for further maintenance in the future.
