Hammersmith Flyover Re-Opens Today

Temporary restrictions in Chiswick have now ended, say Hounslow Council

The Hammersmith flyover reopened today( Monday, May 28th) with the work completed ahead of schedule.

This means that the Temporary Traffic Regulation Order which allowed the temporary bus lane and parking restrictions in Chiswick and which were directly linked to the works to the Hammersmith flyover, have ended.

Hounslow Council said that the temporary restrictions were no longer in place and the signs would come down in the next day or two.

Transport for London (TfL) said today that the Hammersmith flyover was now "fully open after round-the-clock strengthening works" .

"The engineering work to enable the full re-opening of the Hammersmith flyover has been completed ahead of schedule and the flyover is now open to all vehicles.

The works have involved the installation of concrete barriers as well as 22km of new cables within the structure to supplement the load capacity."

The partial closure of the flyover had seen a 20% increase in traffic along the Chiswick High Road during morning rush-hour.

A recent report presented to the Chiswick Area Committee showed there had been over 100 extra vehicles an hour recorded at peak times in Chiswick during the partial closure of the flyover.

The initial full closure and then the reduced, one lane capacity of the flyover resulted in delays along the A4 causing many drivers to divert along Chiswick High Road.
