No fireworks in Fulham this year due to works in Bishops Park
There will be only one official fireworks display in Hammersmith and Fulham this year instead of the usual two. The display will be at Ravenscourt Park in Hammersmith on November 5.
The council says it is unable to hold its usual Bishops Park event due to ongoing major improvement works to the park, including the construction of the capital's only urban beach.
The council had considered moving the fireworks display to Hurlingham Park in Fulham for this year only, but that idea was opposed by the Hammersmith & Fulham Rugby Club and the Hurlingham District Residents’ Association.
In light of these jobjections, the council asked residents their views by running an online poll.
158 votes were cast over the last weekend and 65 people told the council that they would be happy to make alternative arrangements for fireworks for one year only. 56 people said that they were willing to travel to Ravenscourt Park. Only 37 people asked for an event at Hurlingham Park.
The council now says it will be " pulling out all of the stops" to create a special event in Ravenscourt Park, and adds Cllr Greg Smith, Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services: " Next year, rest assured that we shall be back at the much-improved Bishops Park for a Fulham display as well as Ravenscourt Park."
More than 15,000 people are expected to descend on Ravenscourt Park on Saturday November 5. The gates will open at 6pm and children's fireworks will take place at 7.15pm. The celebrations will culminate with a fantastic firework display choreographed to music at around 8pm.
Residents attending the Ravenscourt Park event are reminded to arrive at the park early, as there will be no admittance after the displays start. There will also be no admittance to any vendors, and it is prohibited to bring your own fireworks, sparklers, alcohol or dogs to the event.
Fun for all the family is promised, complete with funfair and food stalls. Tickets to the event, costing £5 each, can be ordered now from the Lyric Hammersmith or the Lyric Theatre box office on 0871 22 117 29. Tickets will also be available on the gate for £7 (with under fives going free).
