Appeal for Help Locating Man Wanted on Recall to Prison

After police told Ryan Byrne was wrongly released from Wandsworth

Police in Hammersmith and Fulham are appealing for information to locate violent burglar Ryan Byrne, 34 who is wanted on recall to prison.

Police were informed by the prison service on Friday, 17 July, that Byrne, who was brought up in Hammersmith, had been released in error from Wandsworth Prison.

Byrne has since taunted police by posing for pictures of himself on the run, including one thought to have been taken in Wardour Street on Saturday 18 July.

Byrne was jailed for nine years for his part in a raid on a branch of Boots in Ruislip to steal £3,800.

He was part of a balaclava-clad gang of four, including his brother Darren who stormed the store armed with a two foot long machete, locked workers in a room and raided the safe.

Byrne has been a thief since his teens. He was released on licence from his original nine year sentence in 2011 but was taken back for breaching conditions.

Police have checked his mother’s house in Acton but are still hunting for him.

He is described as a white man, 5ft 11ins tall and of medium build, and has blue eyes.

Police say active enquiries continue to establish his whereabouts and they are following up a number of lines of inquiry.

Anyone who has seen Ryan Byrne or has any information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Richard Jones at Hammersmith Police Station via 101.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A HM Prison Service spokesman said: “Releases in error are very rare but regrettable occurrences. We are investigating this incident and it is now a matter for the police.”
