Death of baby Farah in Lillie Road hotel 'tragic case for all involved'

A mother has pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey to killing her baby in a room in the Hotel Lily on Lillie Road in Fulham before dumping the child's body in a bin.

Federica Boscolo-Gnolo, 32 of no fixed abode, admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility on Monday February 22.

Boscolo-Gnolo, an Italian national from Chioggia, initially reported to police that her baby daughter had been abducted from the hotel she was staying in shortly after she checked in. 

The court heard that Boscolo-Gnolo, who had been living and working in the UK since 2013, had checked into the Lily Hotel, near Earl's Court on Saturday, January 24 2015. 

She was seen carrying her two-month-old daughter, named Farah, and just a few possessions. 

Boscolo-Gnolo checked out of the hotel without Farah on the same day before contacting her parents in Italy. They were concerned for their daughter and granddaughter's welfare and flew to London on Thursday, January 29. 

They took their daughter to Hammersmith police station to report Farah missing but detectives later arrested her in connection with the baby's disappearance.

Despite extensive searches at the hotel and the local rubbish dump, Farah's body has never been located.

Detective Inspector Jamie Stevenson, of the Met's Homicide and Major Crime Command said: "This is a tragic case for all involved and Boscolo-Gnolo will have to live with her actions for the rest of her life.

"Farah had already been rejected by her father who chose not to be a part of her life, she was then victim to the one person who should have protected her most.

"Boscolo-Gnolo's parents now have to come to terms with losing their daughter, and their granddaughter who they were just getting to know."

Federica Boscolo-Gnolo is due to be sentenced at the Old Bailey on 8 April.
