Glass Domed Development in Shepherd's Bush Road Gets Go Ahead
Plans also approved for Wagamama to take over Old Fire Station
Hammersmith and Fulham Council's planning application committee has given its approval to two new developments in Shepherd's Bush Road.
An application to add a three storey extension to the Access Self Storage building at 184 Shepherds Bush Road, opposite Brook Green, and to change the building’s use from storage to offices, were granted,as was Listed Building Consent which was necessary as the existing building is Grade II listed.

The building has an interesting history, originally built as a motor garage service depot with showroom, constructed for the Ford Motor Company around 1916. It was taken over by Citroen, also for use as a car showroom in 1926 and was later acquired by the the Osram General Electrical Company. It has been as a self storage facility for the last 22 years.
The proposed development involves: " the change of use of the building from storage (Class B8) to office use (Class B1). The total floor space of the existing building is 9,558 sqm (GIA). It is proposed that the building would be used as Grade A office floor space for a national headquarters business.
" A sole tenant for the entire building is being secured. The proposal also involves works of alteration and extension to the grade II listed Building, involving the erection of three further floors of office accommodation on top of the existing building, in the form of a glazed dome made up of triangular panels."
The planning officer's grounds for approval stated: " It is considered that both the proposed extensions and alterations to the existing Grade II listed building would be of a high standard of design and consistent with the scale and height of the host building, complementing the character of the existing development and its setting.
"The proposal by reason of its proposed materials and design would result in a high quality development which would make a positive contribution to the urban environment in this part of the Borough.
"The character and appearance of the Brook Green conservation area and setting of adjacent conservation areas would be preserved and enhanced and the appearance and setting of listed building would not be affected."
The development has the support of local organisations including the Hammersmith and Fulham Historic Buildings Group and the Friends of Brook Green.
A number of other applications were also approved at the meeting. Wagamama – the Japanese restaurant and noodle bar – was also given the go ahead to refurbish Hammersmith's Old Fire Station, also on Shepherd's Bush Road close to Hammersmith Broadway.
The application by Westfield Shopping Centre to build on top of the roof of the shopping centre on Ariel Way, above Marks & Spencer, was also approved. The application was for a roof extension to create a children’s education and entertainment area called Kidzania, plus extra retail space.
Westfield says this extension will lead to the creation of 400 local jobs.
However, plans to redevelop the former Nomis Studios in Sinclair Road, Olympia, where stars such as Tina Turner and Dire Straits have recorded, have been recommended for refusal.
They have been deemed an "overdevelopment of the site" by the council’s planning officers. Developer Regal Sinclair Road LLP has applied to demolish the existing buildings on the site and replace them with 52 flats.
