Derek Myers earns over quarter of a million pounds per year

Derek Myers, joint chief executive of Hammersmith and Fulham and Kensington and Chelsea is the highest earning council chief in London, earning £266,991 per annum.

According to new figures obtained by the Evening Standard through a Freedom of Information request, Mr Myers has a take-home package of £209,800 salary, plus a £10,500 bonus and £46,700 towards his pension pot.

Mr Myers, who has been chief executive of Kensington and Chelsea since 2000, took the helm at both councils in October 2011. At the time, the council claimed the appointment, The move, the latest in a series of major senior management "shares" would save the two authorities around £200,000 a year.

My Myers took over from Geoff Alltimes CBE who had been with the council for over 30 years, having started as a social worker in 1976 and risen to become chief executive in 2002.

Before his retirement, the Daily Telegraph reported in August 2011 that Mr Alltimes was the second highest-paid council boss in Britain, receiving a total of £281,666 for his role as the chief executive of H & F council as well as the local primary care trust.

The Evening Standard's research found that across London, council chief executives are collectively paid almost £6.9 million a year, with most earning over £200,000 per year.

Separate figures revealed that 608 council officials in London earned more than £100,000 in 2011/12, compared with 701 the previous year. Wandsworth had the highest number of six figure salaries with 44, while Hammersmith and Fulham was joint fourth with 28, together clocking up salaries of around £30,000.
