Your Guide to H &F's First Arts Festival
Highlights of events still to come in Hammersmith
Hammersmith and Fulham's first Arts Festival began on Sunday June 8, and it is being followed by a week of non-stop activity through till June 15, with over 100 events and 270 artists taking part and more still being added to the programme.
The festival features visual arts, literary events, music, performing arts and film at venues across the borough, including dozens of events around Hammersmith, including The Lyric, Riverside Studios, King Street's Polish Centre and the Town Hall.
Here are some of the highlights of events still to come:
A Significant Other curated by Jack Jones, H&F's Town Hall Cube features six contemporary artists and their original artworks including sculpture, photography and painting, on view in Hammersmith & Fulham's Town Hall Square throughout ArtsFest Week, 8-15 June
Tradition in Modernity : A Journey through Contemporary Indian Art presented by the Atria Gallery at POSK Gallery, 238-246 King Street daily until Friday 13 June. Website: www.atriagallery.com
The Addison Singers are running a series of six summer choral workshops that are open to all, with the final two workshops focussing on an introduction to Verdi's Requiem, which the choir will be rehearsing and performing in Autum 2014, on 11 and 18 June from 7.30pm-9.30pm at Polish Centre, King Street. Albert & Friends Instant Circus are offering aseries of short performances from the troupe together with circus skill workshops open to families, children and young people on 12 and 13 June and from 12noon–2pm in Lyric Square. Website: www.albertandfriendsinstantcircus.co.uk
Transition Gallery director and local artist Alli Sharma, has organised a special exhibition with the William Morris Society at Kelmscott House, Hammersmith. News from Nowhere takes its title from the book by Morris and explores themes of utopias, environmentalism, personal dreams and imaginings for the future. The Bhavan Centre in Castletown Road, W14 has two events this week, An Introduction to Odissi, Indian Classical Dance form on Thursday we June from 6pm-7pm conducted by Urbi Basu, resident Odissi Dance teacher at the Bhavan Centre. This will be followed by a demonstration, a brief workshop and an interactive session with the audience. Irish Comedy Night - The Irish Cultural Centre in collaboration with the Hop Poles pub, 17 - 19 King Street will present a night of Irish Comedy on Friday 13 June featuring Jarlath Regan, Aideen McQueen, Peter Callaghan, David Duff and the flame-haired Chris McIlroy. Polish Jazz Cafe POSK in King Street brings you the best of jazz. Local artist Oliver Needs holds a show of his art at the Posk Gallery in the Polish Centre, opening Saturday 14 June and running until 19 June. Oliver grew up in the area and paints in an energetic colourful contemporary style. Website: www.oliverneedsart.co.uk
Free Poetry and Prose Gathering -

Riverside Studios in Crisp Road, in addition to a presentation of Hamlet by Hiraeth Artistic Productions, are offering a behind-the-scenes look at the Studios on Sunday 15 June. Thirty-minute tours of the studios are offered between 10.00am and 1pm and will include a ten-minute screening of The History of Riverside Studios.

ACAVA Palace Wharf Studios will be opening its doors to the public on 15 June for probably the last time before this historic site is redeveloped. Home to many tallented local artists showing painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, ceramics and illustration. Come and meet the artists in their studios and enjoy the stunning views of the river from the private terrace.
