Christmas Brings Revival on Broadway

Year of turmoil ends with string of welcome new openings

After a year of turmoil, which has seen the closure of some of its most prominent stores and restaurants, Fulham Broadway is undergoing a welcome revival this Christmas, with a string of new openings scheduled by the end of 2018.

As we reported last month, Mexican fast food chain Taco Bell will launch its second London restaurant on the Broadway, following the first in Hammersmith's King Street.

The launch is set for 7 December, when it will open at 53 Fulham Broadway, the site which was formerly home to Chinese restaurant Chop Chop.

Also opening in December, across the street at 11 Fulham
Broadway - formerly the home of Subway - is Shuro Shirin, promising 'Grab and Go' traditional Persian cuisine. You can follow the preparations for its launch here.

Meanwhile, Italian restaurant Napule, which has been closed for several months is promising it will back back in business soon. The restaurant, which is part of the Made in Italy chain says on its website: "We are currently refurbishing. We'll be back soon!"

Alongside these eateries, the Tanning Shop is moving 100 yards south from 482 Fulham Road to take over the ground floor and basement of 10 Fulham Broadway, where it is promising on its website to offer 'new rooms, new beds but the same great service'. It joins tattoo, piercing and beauty studio INK'D London, which has moved into 20 Fulham Broadway, next to Barclays Bank.

Around the corner at 619 Fulham Road, Kahya London promises a blend of traditional Turkish cooking with a community feeling, with an emphasis on sharing and discovering new flavours.

A Kahya in Turkey is traditionally a butler and housekeeper, a person who looks after and cares for large estates and their owners, and the soon to open restaurant says:" Taking inspiration from the warmth and care in this role, we aspire to take care of our guests, with a selection of delicious meals, cocktails, and atmosphere."

Just off the Broadway at 24 Jerdan Place, Sandy's Too is the second branch of a long established restaurant in Marble Arch, offering French/Italian home cooking including pizzas, salads and good wine in a small cosy setting. Takeaway and delivery are also available.

A large part of the Broadway's rejuvenation is due to the success of Fulham Market Hall in Fulham Broadway Station's former ticket hall at 472 Fulham Road, and this week this is continuing with the opening of its upstairs space and the addition of Love Churros to its line-up of kitchens.

However, it isn't all good news. This week, as we reported here has also seen the expected closure of Gourmet Burger Kitchen, and large sites around the Broadway, including those vacated by The Elk Bar, M&S Simply Food and Del Aziz, remain empty.

The largest empty space on the Broadway, meanwhile, remains Fulham Town Hall, which has remained mostly unsued since being sold by H&F Council to American company Dory Ventures almost seven years ago. The building was put up for sale this year after the company's plans to redevelop it were refused by the council in 2015, but as yet there is no news about its future.
