Traffic chaos ensues as major roads closed
A woman has been killed on the West Cromwell Road near Hammersmith after being hit by a coach which mounted the pavement. The incident occured at about 11.45 am on Saturday 20th November. The coach driver, a male in his 50s, has been bailed following his arrest on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The woman was walking by the eastbound carriageway of the road when she was struck. She has not been named yet but is aged 65. She was taken to Charing Cross Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Police believe they know her identity, but next of kin have not been informed.
Four other pedestrians were injured, but none of these injuries are believed to be serious. They are described as 'walking wounded' and have gone for treatment to Chelsea and Westminster, and Charing Cross Hospitals.
Collision Investigation Unit at Hampton Traffic Garage are investigating the cause of the accident.
There were severe delays as a result of the incident around West London as a result of the closure of the A4/M4 back to junction 2 the other side of Chiswick Roundabout. The latest information is that roads are now clear and traffic is flowing normally.
