Try Boris Bikes for Free this Weekend

As the cycle scheme celebrates its fourth birthday

Transport for London is offering Londoners the chance to try Barclays Cycle Hire for free this weekend as part of the scheme’s fourth birthday celebrations.

Using your bank card, you will be able to hire up to four of the popular blue bikes on Saturday 16 or Sunday 17 August without paying the usual 24 hour access fee.

You will then be able to hire the bikes as many times as you like over the 24 hour period, as long as each individual hire is kept under 30 minutes.

Getting Started

Step 1 - Hire

  • Go to any docking station and touch the screen to begin. You will need your credit or debit card to enable your hire but you won't be charged for 24-hour bike access
  • Select 'Hire a cycle' at the terminal and follow the instructions to get your release code

Step 2 - Ride

  • Check your bike (including tyres, brakes and bell) and enter the code.
  • When the light turns green, pull the bike out of the docking point and you're good to go

Step 3 - Return

  • Push the bike back into a docking point. A green light means you've successfully docked.
  • If you can't find a space, select 'no docking point free' at the terminal to get an extra 15 minutes of free time.

We hope you enjoy your free rides. Do remember that there are charges for journeys of 30 minutes or longer, or if you damage or don't return a bike. See the list of charges.

You must use a valid credit or debit card (not a membership key) to redeem this offer. This guarantees your hire and covers any charges. You cannot use an American Express credit card to redeeem this offer. You have to be 18 or over to hire a bike and 14 or over to use the bikes. See the full terms and conditions.
