Brush Up Your Cycling Skills with a Training Course

Free or subsidised sessions on offer to all in borough

With the first Barclays Cycle Hire docking stations now available across the borough and more on the way this spring, now is a good time to brush up your biking skills with a training course.

Free or subsidised cycle training is available to all people living, working or studying in H&F. The sessions are arranged at a date, time and place to suit the trainee and are tailored to the trainee's level of experience.

There is normally a booking fee of £5, but people who are unemployed can attend a course for free. The courses include:

  • Private tuition in safe, confident road cycling for young people, adults and families
  • A two-hour one-to-one cycle training session for anyone who lives, works or studies in the borough
  • Bikes can be provided for complete beginners
  • Female and male instructors will train anywhere in Hammersmith & Fulham
  • Further information can be found at Bikeworks'website
  • To book an individual lesson please contact Bikeworks, the borough's adult cycle training provider, by phone 020 8980 7998 or email enquiries@bikeworks.org.uk

All cycle training is run to the national standard guidelines by Bikeworks, a Department for Transport accredited company.

There are now around 1,700 of the popular bikes in H&F at around 60 docking stations in the borough including at well-known locations like BBC White City, Olympia Exhibition Centre and Charing Cross Hospital, and near the train stations at Imperial Wharf and West Brompton.

There are also stations near the parks of Eel Brook Common, Parsons Green and South Park, and at tube stations including Ravenscourt Park, Putney Bridge, West Kensington and Barons Court. The most westerly docking station is at Ravenscourt Park Station in Hammersmith.

Councillor Victoria Brocklebank-Fowler, cabinet member for transport and technical services, says: “We want more people to get on their bikes and enjoy travelling around the borough but we want them to do it safely. Coming on a course is the perfect way to boost confidence and refresh your knowledge – whether you’re learning from scratch or someone getting back into cycling after a few years off."
