Harrods Applies to Extend Offices in Hammersmith Road

New glazed infill would 'future proof' building and allow more staff to move in

Top people's shop Harrods has applied to H&F Council to extend its offices in Hammersmith Road.

68-72 Hammersmith Road is currently home to 1,305 Harrods staff, including the creative, buying and merchandising, IT, finance, ecommerce, and HR teams.

However, Harrods believes that it would run out of space, allowing no more room for growth by 2020, so the extension is intended to 'future proof' the building.

The plans, designed by Make Architects, would create a new infill extension over the car park with a glazed atrium. One part would be nine storeys high and the other would be seven storeys.

The application, which is currently open for comments is as follows:

Alterations and extensions to the existing office building to provide an additional 6,898 sq.m (GEA) of Class B1a office space (25,327 sq.m (GEA) in total), including erection of a part one, part six, part eight and part nine storey infill extension partly over the existing vehicular courtyard at the rear with adjacent glass atrium spaces and substation to the rear, following the demolition of the existing entrance canopy on the southern (Hammersmith Road) elevation; provision of a new vehicular ramp to basement car park from ground level at the northern edge of the site; reduction of parking spaces from 115 to 95, including provision of 5 accessible blue badge bays and 258 cycle spaces; changes to servicing arrangements; provision of hard and soft landscaping.

If the development goes ahead, Harrods expects to move more staff into Hammersmith, freeing up space for retail in its Knightsbridge store.
