King Street To Be Opened Westbound From Friday Evening
Temporary opening aims to relieve congestion due to Hammersmith Bridge closure
Hammersmith & Fulham Council has announced that King Street will be temporarily reopened to westbound traffic from this evening, Friday 9 February.
This measure is being taken to relieve congestion caused by the closure of Hammersmith Bridge from tomorrow, Saturday 10 February at 8am.
King Street will also fully reopen to both east and wesbound traffic from Wednesday, 14 February, but once maintenance work has been completed on the bridge on Sunday 18 February, King Street will once again be closed to all traffic so that repairs to the road surface can be completed.
The clear up work follows a burst water main which led to major flooding on King Street throughout the evening of 26 January.
Thames Water is also continuing to fix a second burst pipe which caused major flooding in Goldhawk Road in Shepherd's Bush last Wednesday. This means there are still closures on Goldhawk Road itself, but on Tuesday 6 February, Hammersmith Grove reopened to northbound traffic only. Motorists can only turn left (westbound) on reaching Goldhawk Road.
Thames Water has said on Thursday 8 February that people in a number of areas of London, including W12 and W14 may find themselves temporarily with no water or low pressure while it looks for leaks.
Today's update said: "We actively look for leaks to try and prevent bursts from happening and to reduce wastage. Whilst looking for leaks we also check that all of our equipment works as expected.
"Sometimes we have to turn some valves on and off to monitor the flow of water, allowing us to find any leaks."
