V&A Museum's Clothworkers' Centre Wins Civic Trust Award
Centre in Olympia dedicated to study and conservation of textiles and fashion
The Clothworkers' Centre for the Study and Conservation of Textiles and Fashion, part of the Victoria and Albert Museum in Olympia is one of two local projects which are among 91 winners in the 2015 Civic Trust Awards.
The Clothworkers' Centre for the Study and Conservation of Textiles and Fashion, opened in October 2013, was designed by architects Haworth Tomkins for the Victoria & Albert Museum is located at Blythe House, a grade II listed building originally designed by Sir Henry Tanner in 1890.
Dedicated to the storage, conservation and study of the Textile and Fashion Collection, the centre, with a custom-built compressed storage system ensures the long-term preservation of the collection of over 104,000 items.
The second local winner is Dorsett Shepherd's Bush Hotel on Shepherd's Bush Green, set within a Grade II listed building, built in 1923, on the west side of Shepherd's Bush Green, originally known as The Shepherd's Bush Pavilion.
The Civic Trust Awards scheme was established in 1959 to recognise outstanding architecture, planning and design in the built environment.
All schemes featured will receive an Award or Commendation with event Special Awards presented to schemes for excellence in specific areas. The 56th Annual Civic Trust Awards Ceremony will take place on Friday 6th March at The Swan, Shakespeare’s Globe in London.
