New venture moves in after shock closure
T.G. I Friday's, the largest restaurant on Fulham Broadway, has closed, and will be replaced in June by UNION Market, a store and eaterie specialising in the best of British food.
Shoppers visiting Fulham Broadway this weekend were shocked to see the sudden closure of T.G.I Friday's and the instant removal of the restaurant's sign and colourful window displays.
On Monday morning, the company confirmed the closure. A spokesperson said: " We can confirm the sale of our restaurant in Fulham. The decision was made following a period of careful consideration as T.G.I Friday's continues to enjoy strong growth, with a further three UK openings in the pipeline.
"We are working closely with the Fulham team to find them alternative positions within the Friday's family."
The restaurant was one of the first to open after the redevelopment of Fulham Broadway shopping centre in 2002, transforming the original reception hall of the tube station into a restaurant and cocktail bar.
This space however has been instantly taken over by a new company called UNION Market, who have always working on the interior. The company, based in nearby W11, promises to provide "food with attitude" and says: " UNION Market is a living, creative space bursting with ideas and exciting activity. We believe heart and soul in being dynamic, inspiring and innovative in everything we do.
"Our spirited attitude will define modern British cuisine and celebrate its amazing quality and diversity."
Says Fulham Broadway manager Gary Blackledge: " Union Market have already begun fitting out the space, and plan to open to the public in June.
" They will be followed by Metro Bank, who will start fitting out the space which was formerly used by Borders in May, with the aim of opening their doors in July. So I am happy to say that Fulham Broadway is set for a very busy summer."
