South Park at Risk from Council Sale Plan

Friends invite local residents to open meeting

The Friends of South Park are inviting local people to an open meeting on November 30 in response to the latest version of the Master Plan design produced by Hammersmith and Fulham Council.

This plan involves the sale of the north west corner of the park, including Clancarty Lodge, for residential use. 

The council claim that selling the land is the only way that the restoration can be funded, although this was never revealed when the master plan consultation process commenced.  

The Friends of South Park are completely opposed to the sale, as it contravenes the covenant imposed by Charlotte
Sulivan, who was one of Fulham’s major benefactors at the turn of the last century.

Charlotte sold the park for £35,000 to the borough council, who opened it to the public in March 1904.

Friends of South of Park's Chairman Anthony Williams says:
" The Council have failed to pursue alternative funding options even though these have been repeatedly put to them.   Please make your views known at the open meeting."

The meeting will be held on Monday, November 30 at Thomas's School in Hugon Road, opposite the south entrance to the park, from 7pm to 8.30pm.
