Fulham residents asked to choose favourite redesign proposals
North End Road is set for milion pound improvements in the years ahead - and H&F Council says it is now taking the next steps towards a 'community redesign' of our shopping street and market.
Earlier this year, the council consulted shopkeepers, market traders, community representatives and local community groups on ideas for improvements while residents gave their views at a public exhibition at St John’s Church.
It says it has already allocated an initial £1 million of new funding negotiated from property developers to implement some of these ideas and has applied to TfL and others for the additional funding it will need to take forward the bigger ones.
From the feedback received during the consultation, architects Carver Haggard have produced a 'Catalogue of Interventions' packed with large, medium and small ideas for improvements.
Among the biggest are planting pavement trees, reinstating Victorian pavements, upgrading street lighting, treating the road surface with coloured tarmac or paving, improving shopfronts, forecourts and upper floors.
Among the medium sized proposals are adding a parklet, with seats and planting, colourful crossings, a traditional market sign, public toilets, community garden, bakery and outdoor space.
Possible smaller touches include planters, benches and seating, board game tables, murals, bicycle racks, banners and a local directory and noticeboard.
There are also ideas for changing traffic rules to make the road more pedestrian and cyclist friendly, for improving our street market and making the street smarter.
You can see the proposals here and give your views on them by emailing NorthEndRoad@lbhf.gov.uk.
