And residents have a last chance today to help make it even better
North End Road's seasonal markets have been crowned Best Community/Parish Market at the Great British Market Awards.
The judges said of the markets: " The winner of the Best Community/Parish Market, North End Road Seasonal Markets, Fulham, is a market with a strong emphasis on place and local people and is an exciting example of the local council working with community groups.
"Year on year attendance figures have provided for sustained growth and the increase in popularity is an example to other authorities in London."
The seasonal markets were launched as an experiment in December 2014 and have since become a very popular regular event, taking place four times a year with North End Road closed to traffic and stalls lining both sides of the street, along with entertainment from street performers and local musicians.
Cllr Ben Coleman, picture above right celebrating at the awards with Mark Richardson from North End Road Action Group, or NERAG , tweeted @BJ_Coleman: "Delighted that H&F Council and residents have won this award for their work together to boost North End Road Market.
"An example for other authorities in London" said the judges. All about the council doing things *with* residents and not just *to* them. @LBHF
The next seasonal market is set to take place on Sunday 14 April - a change of day from previous events which took place on Saturdays - from 9am-6pm. As usual, the road will be pedestrianised and packed with stalls up to Lillie Road. There’ll be food and drink, a cornucopia of things to buy and loads of entertainment, including live music.
Anyone interested in becoming a part of the North End Road Spring Market and running their own stall is invited to apply using the application form on the council's website.
For more information, or help and advice on running a stall, call Sonia Gorniak on 020 8753 6911 or email Sonia.Gorniak@lbhf.gov.uk. There is also information for traders here.
H&F Council says that since 2014, it has been working with businesses, traders and residents in NERAG to boost North End Road and its 131-year-old market as a thriving shopping destination.
This month it has asked the Fulham community to offer their views on a planned community-led redesign of North End Road in Fulham - and local people have a last chance today, 22 February to take part.
The council says it has been working with businesses, traders and residents to improve North End Road as a thriving retail and food destination for the last five years.
Now it is ready to move to the next stage, thanks to new funding – including £1 million negotiated from property developers.
