Fun, food and music from morning till night in traffic free North End Road
North End Road goes traffic free for the second time on Saturday, June 27, with a Summer Market during the day and an After Party in local venues in the evening.
Fulham's busiest road is hosting a pedestrianised and extended Summer Market with a wide variety of stalls lining both sides of the road.
Building on the success of the traffic-free Festive Market last December, the Summer Market will see 150 stalls lining both sides of the high street up to Lillie Road, selling great gifts, beautiful crafts, jewellery and art, stylish clothes, delicious cakes, hot food, refreshing drinks – and loads more. There will also be a John Parnham and live music.
Among the items on offer are these canvas bags which have been hand-painted by over 200 seven - 11 year-old children from Sir John Lillie and Melcombe Primary Schools.
The children took part after being invited by Mark Richardson, a member of the North End Road Action Group. The group, which comprises residents, businesses and councillors, works to revive North End Road as a vibrant place to shop and eat.
Mark said: "We want children and their parents to get to know the market and I thought this would be a fun way of doing that. Not everybody realises that the market is a great place to shop. You can get cheap and healthy food, and food from all over the world.
" You’re buying products from people rather than a supermarket shelf. If you don’t know how to cook something they will tell you how to cook it. I think if people can learn to shop in the market when they’re young, they will carry on doing it for the rest of their lives."
The market will also offer fun for the whole family through the day, including the high-energy ZHL String Ensemble, a one man band playing cockney classics, the creative and colourful Justo the Clown, as well as striking stiltwalkers, the Damselflies.
Then after the shopping comes the After Party, with music including a live band at The Cock Tavern, an electro swing DJ at The Lucky Pig, karaoke at the Goose Pub and a Bavarian brass band at the Octoberfest Pub.
The food is equally varied, from vegan to Caribbean, with the choice of drinks ranging from cocktail and mocktails to craft beers and cask ales.

The Summer Market will also launch the annual week-long Celebrating Fulham festival, which runs from 27 June to 5 July. This will showcase the area’s history, talent and entertainment and give residents and visitors the chance to discover some of Fulham’s hidden treasures.
Further traffic-free markets in North End Road are planned for September and December.
