North End Road to Become Traffic Free for Festive Market

Part of push to make road more attractive to shoppers

North End Road will be closed to traffic on Saturday December 6 for a special festive market.

The experiment is part of a push to revive North End Road which is seeing local residents, businesses and stallholders working in an action group with the council to revive the road and make it more attractive to visitors and shoppers.

On December 6 North End Road up to Lillie Road will be pedestrianised and filled on both sides with an expanded, traffic-free market packed with dozens of new stalls selling festive presents, hand-made decorations, crafts, jewellery and art, clothes, cakes, hot food and mulled wine - and loads more.

Councillor Ben Coleman, the borough's Local Business Champion says: " This one-day trial will create a more vibrant, attractive shopping area packed with stalls on both sides. We hope people will come and get their seasonal shopping off to a cracking start.

"We also want local residents and businesses to tell us afterwards what they thought of the day. What did it show us? Should we do it again?"

To allow for the event, North End Road will be closed to traffic and diversions will be in place between Lillie Road and Dawes Road from 6am to 8pm on December 6, as shown on this map:
