North End Road Goes Traffic Free for Summer Market
With over 150 stalls, international food and live music on Saturday
As well as over 150 stalls on each side of the road, highlights include a Battle of the Bands contest across two stages, a jam-packed line-up of street entertainment and a chance to sample cuisines from all over the planet.
The annual Battle of the Bands contest will take place on two stages – one at the top of Sedlescombe Road and the other at Coomer Place from 10.20am onwards.
The line-up includes the five-piece indie pop-rock band Unknown Chapters, Spanish singer Maria Moss, pictured below, and Swedish singer-songwriter Carl Olander, among a total of 15 groups and singer/songwriters.
The winner will be announced on the Coomer stage at 5pm and given a £500 cash prize courtesy of Ibis Hotels, while the runner-up will win a champagne meal for six donated by The Broadway Bar and Grill.
There will also be four busking areas where musicians will be performing throughout the day and street performers are back, including Bella the Bubblelogist, Granny Turismo, Rimski – the rovin piano and pianist, The Trees and the Tall Police, pictured above.
As well as North End Road's regular market stalls, there will be an array of stalls selling arts and crafts, clothing, fashion accessories, a wide range of gifts produced by local independent traders and an international choice of food and drink.
Working with the council to boost the market, North End Road Action Group (NERAG) is made up of residents, businesses, market traders, local organisations and the council with an aim of reviving North End Road as a thriving high street with the market at its core.
