I would like to wish all Chelsea & Fulham residents a happy, healthy and successful 2023!

At the beginning of the year, I would like to take the opportunity to look ahead to what awaits in 2023:

I excitedly look forward to continue working in Government with our Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who’s leadership bid I supported from the outset, and progressing the UK’s trade agenda. The UK’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and many negotiations on trade agreements will feature on my Ministerial agenda. This will follow on from my recent Ministerial Trade visits to the US. It was good to be back in the United States, promoting British trade and investment and easing trade barriers. In Columbia, South Carolina I signed the UK’s third MoU with a US state before continuing the trade visit in California and Utah.

Internationally, I am very hopeful to see an end of Putin’s aggression against Ukraine with the UK’s leading role in this barbaric conflict. The Ukrainian people are bravely fighting to defend their land. They have endured indiscriminate bombardment, war crimes, and overwhelming military aggression but they have stood firm, galvanised the international community, and fiercely resisted the Russian invasion. It has been heart-warming to see the generosity of British households as they have welcomed many people fleeing Ukraine into their homes.

The UK will continue to provide Ukraine with the defensive weaponry they need to defend their country and in May Liverpool will host the Eurovision on behalf of the Ukraine, last year’s winner.

Our country and the Commonwealth are now eagerly awaiting the coronation. King Charles III’s coronation will be held on Saturday 6 May at Westminster Abbey with the Queen Consort also being crowned. King Charles' coronation will be the first for almost 70 years and the first held on a Saturday since Edward VII’s in 1902. Buckingham Palace has indicated that the ceremony will combine the ancient and modern, "rooted in longstanding traditions" but it will also "reflect the monarch's role today and look towards the future".

The Prime Minister announced there will be an additional Bank Holiday for the whole of the UK on Monday 8 May 2023 to mark this historic occasion, creating an opportunity for families and communities across the country to come together to celebrate. I certainly look forward to this momentous occasion and celebrations.

Locally, I will continue my campaigns to save our vital local bus routes and to ensure a Post Office will be available to residents in the North End Road area. The fight against Heathrow expansion, a local priority issue I resigned over in 2018, and my opposition to night flights at the airport will go on. I am also anticipating great sporting events locally with our two Premier League Clubs Chelsea FC and Fulham FC.

2023 is promising to be an exciting year!

Kind regards,

Greg Hands
