Menu will reflect the facility's rich mix of backgrounds

Fulham is set for a feast of global flavours this summer as Farm Lane, one of Care UK’s West London homes, prepares to welcome neighbours, families and friends for a vibrant community food festival. Taking place on Friday 7 August from 2pm to 3.30pm, the event celebratesthe dishes and traditions that mean the most to residents.
The festival is part of A Taste of Home, a nationwide initiative showcasing life inside Care UK homes through food, creativity and shared memories. But in Fulham, the spotlight will fall squarely on the residents of Farm Lane, who have helped shape a menu that reflects the home’s rich mix of backgrounds and culinary heritage.
Visitors can expect a lively spread of Indian, Chinese and Caribbean dishes, alongside seasonal favourites prepared by the home’s catering team. The aim is to recreate the flavours that residents grew up with, cooked for their families, or enjoyed during special occasions — dishes that carry stories as much as they carry spice.
Home Manager Diana Gooranah says the festival is about more than food; it’s about strengthening the bonds that make Fulham feel like a village within the city.
“We’re delighted to be welcoming the local community to our very own food festival. We are part of a strong community here in Fulham, and days like this are a wonderful way of bringing people together to celebrate our shared love of food, while giving residents the opportunity to share their favourite recipes and traditions with younger generations.”
The afternoon will also include karaoke, music and family-friendly entertainment, creating a relaxed, joyful atmosphere where visitors can mingle with residents, try new dishes and enjoy the home’s garden spaces.
For many residents, the festival is a chance to revisit cherished memories. One resident, John Chrzczonowicz, 67, shared his excitement about the event: “Some of my favourite childhood memories involve making curry puffs, bread and butter pudding, fried chicken, and rice and peas. I’m excited for this event and to relive those memories, and welcome everyone to our beautiful home.”
His sentiment captures the heart of the festival: food as a bridge between past and present, and between the home and the wider community.
Farm Lane provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as respite stays, with a strong emphasis on independence, activity and social connection. Events like the food festival are designed to bring the outside world into the home — and to show local families what life in a modern care home is really like.
“The day not only promises a lot of laughter,” Ms Gooranah adds, “but it is also an excellent way for residents to meet and mingle with lots of new faces – and some familiar ones. We can’t wait to welcome everyone through the doors.”
While Farm Lane’s festival is the centrepiece for Fulham, Care UK homes across the country will be hosting their own Taste of Home events throughout August, each shaped by the residents who live there.
