Young people in the borough are being invited to try something new this summer as Bishops Park launches a series of free sports taster sessions led by expert coaches. The initiative, organised by Hammersmith & Fulham Youth Councillors Izzie Frost and Flor Stochino, offers teenagers the chance to get active, meet new people and enjoy the sunshine in one of the area’s most popular riverside parks.
Running across late July and early August, the programme features one-hour sessions in sports ranging from Allstar Cheerleading to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, giving 11–18-year-olds the opportunity to sample activities they may never have tried before. The sessions are designed to be welcoming, beginner-friendly and completely free, making them accessible to young people from Chiswick, Hammersmith, Fulham and beyond.
The first event takes place on Thursday 30 July, when coaches from Ultimate Cheer will run two Allstar Cheerleading sessions from 11:00–12:00 and 13:00–14:00. On Tuesday 4 August, Valour Jiu-Jitsu will lead a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu taster from 12:00–13:00, introducing participants to the fundamentals of the martial art in a supportive environment.
More dates are expected to be announced soon, with organisers encouraging young people to bring friends and enjoy a relaxed, outdoor alternative to traditional summer activities. The sessions aim to promote fitness, confidence and community connection — all within the leafy surroundings of Bishops Park.
Youth councillors Izzie and Flor said: “Looking to try something new this summer? Then this is the place for you. We’re running multiple free taster sessions in sports ranging from cheerleading to Jiu-Jitsu at Bishop’s Park. All 11 to 18-year-olds are welcome. Come along, enjoy the summer sun and do some fun exercise at the same time. We can’t wait to see you there.”
The initiative reflects a growing push across west London to provide accessible, positive activities for young people during the school holidays, with Bishops Park offering a safe, welcoming space just a short journey from Chiswick.
For enquiries, participants can contact the organisers at I.Frost@spgs.org or F.Stochino@spgs.org. Sessions can be booked via Eventbrite.
