Wendy’s Burgers is aiming to take over 563 Fulham Broadway, the site recently vacated by Thai Square.

An application has been submitted to Hammersmith and Fulham Council to install a new shopfront, along with a second application to add new signs.

An accompanying letter, from planning consultants Firstplan says: “ These applications seek planning permission and advertisement consent for the installation of a replacement shopfront to the principal elevation of the building facing onto Fulham Road, as well the installation of new signage to facilitate the occupation of the premises by our client, Wendy’s. “

Both applications, currently open for comments, can be seen on the council website using the references 2024/02194/FUL and 2024/02195/ADV.

Wendy’s main claim to fame is its freshly made, square shaped burgers. It also offers a range of breakfast sandwiches, wraps, salads and its own Frosty desserts.

The burger chain was originally launched in Columbus, Ohio in 1969 and has since grown to over 7,000 outlets across America and the world, including around 40 in the UK. Earlier this year it announced plans to open up to 50 more UK restaurants this year, and up to 400 in the long run. This branch however, is its first launch within Central London.

If it gets the council’s go ahead, Wendy’s will become the second burger restaurant on Fulham Broadway, rivalling Five Guys on the other side of the road.

It will also add to the range of cuisines on offer, which include Korean from neighbouring restaurant Yori, Vietnamese from Pho, Mexican from Taco Bell and Spanish from El Metro in neighbouring Effie Road.

Thai Square's return to Fulham Broadway was brief

The mix also includes two recent arrivals, pizza restaurant Zia Lucia at 49 Fulham Broadway and The Clarion Cafe, an all day cafe opened in the Fulham Centre next door to Gail’s.

Across the road meanwhile, the former Fish and Chip Shack now has new owners and a new name, Fishy Delishy, offering the usual range of fish dishes plus more unusual offerings including tempura prawns and calamari and a choice of vegan alternatives.
