Thai Square Closes Three Months After Reopening

Restaurant ends its low key return to Fulham Broadway

Thai Square's return to Fulham Broadway was brief

August 5, 2024

Thai Square has shut down its Fulham restaurant, just three months after reopening.

The restaurant returned in spring to 563 Fulham Road, opposite the Broadway shopping centre, two years after its original closure in 2022.

At the time, it said on its website: “ We couldn’t be happier to announce the reopening of our Fulham restaurant in April. After a few years of closure due to the pandemic, we’re reopening our doors and can’t wait to serve our West London fans authentic and delicious Thai dishes once again.

“ Whether you’re a returning regular or a newcomer, we can’t wait to see you!”

However, the relaunch remained surprisingly low key, with the restaurant open only from Wednesdays till Sundays and with its dark interior decor, it wasn’t always obvious if it was open.

Though the restaurant was popular before the pandemic, it also faced new competition from neighbours offering a range of Asian cuisines, including next door’s Yori, serving Korean cuisine and Pho, offering Vietnamese street food across the road at 4 Broadway Chambers.

There is also Wagamama, on the first floor of the Broadway shopping centre, with its Japanese inspired pan Asian menu, while Sichuan Po Po offers Chinese street food a short walk further east on Fulham Road.

The chain announced its departure from Fulham with this message: " We are excited to announce that we are relocating to Bayswater Road and will be open this autumn. The 31st of July will be our last day to serve you at this location.

"Thank you for all supports and we look forward to welcoming you at our new location. In the meantime, please visit the closest branch, Putney Bridge. Quote ‘Fulham’ for a 20% discount on the food bill when making bookings.”
