The former Co-op store on North End Road
April 29, 2024
The much anticipated open of Lidl’s new store on North End Road looks as if it is finally happening.
Fit out work is underway in what the company says is a multi-million-pound investment and 40 staff have been recruited. The new store will include an in-house bakery.
The discount supermarket chain has been planning to launch at the new location at numbers 254 – 258 since April 2022. The Co-op store previously on the site closed last September and originally it was hoped Lidl would be trading on the site by last Christmas but now August is the widely expected date for the launch.
The unit is about a third smaller than the average unit size of a Lidl across the rest of the country and it is thought that issues with the site have delayed opening.
Co-op Food maintains other branches nearby including Lillie and Munster Roads and further up North End Road, plus two stores further south in Parsons Green.

Grant Shulton, Regional Head of Property for Lidl GB, said, “After all the support we’ve received from members of the community, it’s exciting to be able to share that we are one step closer to opening the doors to our Fulham store.
“We have a clear commitment to providing shoppers with the very best value, and after becoming the third-largest supermarket in London it really reinforces our dedication to ensuring that everyone can eat affordable, high-quality food, no matter where they live.”
Lidl has continued to expand in the capital claiming that it has invested £500million in the area. It now has a 9.1% share of supermarket sales and overtook Aldi to become the third largest retailer in London last year.
