The Refinery on Manbre Whard
The Refinery, a new laboratory and tech space development has been officially launched on Fulham Reach.
The new building is part of ARC West London, which already has an adjacent building, ARC Waterfront, housing a number of leading science organisations including, Kesmalea, Sania Therapeutics and Epsiolgen.
It has taken over two years to convert an existing office block at Manbre Wharf to the five storey Refinery, providing “a lab-enabled building designed from the basement up to support Containment Level 2 laboratories, inspiring the next generation of scientific discovery”.
The ground floor is dedicated to Motherlabs, ARC’s accelerator and co-working hub, with a cafe, break out spaces and bookable meeting rooms, while the floors above offer a range of flexible lab spaces and facilities including a members’ lounge and terrace. There is also landscaped outdoor space along the riverfront.
The opening of the Refinery also saw the announcement of a new partnership between ARC London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The partnership aims to support innovators across AI, life sciences, robotics and digital industries with lab benches, co-working spaces, cutting edge facilities, shared equipment to develop and scale-up early-stage concepts.
Hammersmith & Fulham Council Leader, Cllr Stephen Cowan also attended the launch to announce the formation of a new 'innovation cluster', called the Fulham Riverside Life Sciences Precinct.

Speaking at the launch event, Cllr Cowan said, “These new partnerships at the heart of the new Fulham Riverside Life Sciences Precinct mark another major milestone in establishing our corner of West London as a global leader in science and technology.
“By fostering collaboration between world-class research institutions, innovative companies, and the NHS, we are not only driving economic growth but also shaping the future of healthcare and deep tech in line with our Upstream London industrial strategy.
“This is an exciting step forward for Hammersmith & Fulham and the wider UK innovation landscape.”
Jim Stretton, managing director of ARC, added, “By combining Imperial’s world-class research, our expertise in creating dynamic innovation campuses and our partnership with the NHS, we’re building a unique ecosystem where life science and health startups can thrive.
“This collaboration will accelerate the journey from discovery to real-world impact, strengthening west London as a global location for science, technology, and healthcare innovation.”
