Work is soon to begin building a new life science campus by the Thames Path along Fulham Reach, along with a new public riverside park.

The campus, called Refinery, is being created by the redevelopment and extension of the existing office building in Manbre Wharf and the opening up of the green space in front of it to connect it to the Thames Path.

Construction giant Kier has been appointed to deliver Refinery, and is promising to work with small businesses through the Hammersmith and Fulham Local Supply Chain Project, which helps connect local firms to large developers and contractors.

Kier also says it will also work closely with H&F Council to generate and promote jobs, apprenticeships, work experience and training opportunities to local people.

Announcing its appointment, Kier says the project will include the extension and full reconfiguration of the existing four storey building. Its façade and roof will be replaced, two new storeys added, and a green roof will finish the look of the building.

Inside, the space will be fully redeveloped to create flexible laboratories, together with working spaces including a business lounge, design-led offices, co-working spaces, meeting rooms, restaurant and café, event studio, presentation suite and cycle facilities for 200 bicycles.

Outside, the external works will create a new communal park for the public, as shown in these pictures, that integrates with the Thames Path.

ARC West London, which is developing Refinery has already created a website for the project, which it calls “a transforming riverside home for science and innovation”.

It says the 121,000 sq. ft science and tech laboratory building will help to address the crippling shortage of lab space across London and will combine flexible wet and dry lab space and state-of-the-art research and development facilities, with amenities including restaurants and cafés and event and presentation studios, suitable for science and tech SMEs to multinationals.

ARC West London - ARC meaning Advanced Research Cluster - adds that Refinery will be part of the booming West London life science ecosystem, alongside neighbours including Charing Cross Hospital, a short walk away, Hammersmith Hospital and Imperial College’s White City Campus.

Space at the campus, from a single lab bench to an entire floor of the building will be available when Refinery opens in 2024.
