A huge tower block and nearly 300 homes with views of the river Thames could be built in Fulham.

A developer wants to build a mix of apartments, a café and offices on the river bank near Wandsworth Bridge.

Henley Fusion Ltd plans to create six housing blocks between six and 20 storeys high on the corner between Wandsworth Bridge Road and Townmead Road.

The project includes a total of 281 apartments, ranging from one-bed studios to four-bed apartments overlooking the river.

The area takes in Albert Wharf and Swedish Wharf – two industrial shipping sites with machinery, shed-like buildings and a car dealership.

If the project goes ahead, Swedish Wharf will be preserved and taken over by the Port of London Authority.

The plans also include a new Thames path and jetty, space for a café or restaurant and shared areas for tenants which may include work space or a gym.

A third of the homes would be classed as affordable and all of the properties will have access to outdoor space, either from private balconies or gardens.

Henley plans for the site to be ‘car-free’ by giving parking spaces only to blue badge holders and creating plenty of bike storage.

A report by the developer says: “There will be a series of high-quality buildings linked by well-defined spaces to create a safe and secure environment with a distinctive riverside character.

“Our proposal will complement and build on the community’s aspirations to enhance their local environment through the provision of high-quality public realm and architecture, providing a focal point into Fulham and a place which will benefit the local community and its industrial heritage.”

Hammersmith and Fulham Council will consider the plans in due course.
