Harwood Arms Wins Michelin Star

First pub in London to win award

The Harwood Arms has become the first pub in London to be awarded a Michelin Star.

The gastropub, which specialises in seasonal British food with an emphasis on game and meat, has already won rave reviews and several awards since it reopened to the public after extensive refurbishment in 2008.

They include The Good Food Guide's Best Pub Newcomer and Menu of the Year in the 2009 Cateys, the Oscars of the catering world.

The Harwood Arms is a collaboration between Brett Graham of the Ledbury restaurant, Mike Robinson of the Pot Kiln pub in rural Berkshire and Edwin Vaux from the famous Vaux brewery.

The owners describe the pub as a rural haven in heart of Fulham, and say the idea is to provide
Londoners with a really relaxed venue for eating the finest British produce, cooked amazingly well, accompanied by excellent beer and wine at a great price.

They add that making this happen is Stephen Williams, ex Ledbury chef, and a man with a real
understanding of how to make the ingredients shine.

" All we set out to achieve at the Harwood Arms was to open a pub offering good food at reasonable prices," says Brett Graham. " Stephen Williams worked with me at Ledbury and is clearly a fantastic chef, but we really didn’t expect this at all.

Stephen, 27 said the Michelin star came as a big surprise. "We're a bit blown away, " he said. "We just serve good food in a pub environment."

Hammersmith's River Cafe also retained its Michelin star.
