Jorge Gil Jawhar sentenced to 14 years imprisonment
A man from Fulham has been sentenced to a total of 14 years in jail for raping two transgender sex workers.
24-year-old Jorge Gil Jawhar, a Spanish national who lived on Merrington Road had pleaded guilty to two charges of rape, one attempted rape and one charge of theft. He was sentenced this Friday (12 May) at Isleworth Crown Court.
He attacked his two victims at their home addresses after arranging to meet for sex.
On 4 August 2016, Jawhar called the first victim, aged 21, on her mobile phone and went round to her address in Clapham. Upon entering the property, he immediately grabbed her and tried to kiss her. She tried to resist his advances but Jawhar ignored her and continued to force himself on her.
She pushed him off and demanded that he leave, threatening to call the police. Jawhar grabbed the phone and threw it away, before he pinned her down on the bed and attempted to rape her before carrying out two sexual assaults.
On 2 September 2016, he contacted his second victim, aged 35, and they arranged to meet. He visited her address in Fulham and in a similar way to the first attack, he immediately began to kiss and touch her as soon as she opened the door. He threatened her and forced his way into the flat, slapping her around the face three times. He proceeded to rape her before taking the victim's perfume and leaving the flat.
Jawhar was identified following forensic enquiries, and arrested on 3 October 2016. He denied the offences when interviewed, but was subsequently charged.
Detective Inspector Suzanne Jordan of the Met's Sexual Offences Exploitation and Child Abuse, who led the investigation, said: “Jawhar is a dangerous sexual predator who used violence against his vulnerable victims for his own gratification and I am pleased that he will now spend a long time behind bars.
“He targeted his victims and thought that because of the nature of their work, his offending would go unreported. I would like to stress that the Met is committed to seeking justice for all victims of sexual offences.
“It is quite possible that there are other victims of Jawhar who chose not to report the crimes. We would urge them to come forward and speak to police.”
If you have been the victim of an attack by Jawhar, call the witness appeal line on 020 8721 4106, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you would prefer not to give your name.
