A drug dealer from Fulham has been jailed for nine years after being stopped in his car by armed police. When the vehicle was searched it was found to contain a large amount of cash, drugs and a hand gun with ammunition and a silencer.

The London Crime Squad, with assistance from armed officers from the Met's Force Firearms Unit (SCO19) stopped a black Peugeot on West Drive in Streatham Park, SW16 on 16 June. The driver, Daniel Moncur, 32, of Wandon Road, SW6, was detained as the vehicle was searched. In the rear of the car was a black holdall inside which officers found a Bersa handgun, a silencer and 49 rounds of hollow-point ammunition. Moncur was also found in possession of a lock knife, £3,335 in cash, MDMA cocaine and cannabis.

When questioned after being arrested gave no comment to questions put to him. He was charged the following day with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply), acquisition of criminal property, possession of an offensive weapon (knife) and possession of cannabis.

He pleaded guilty to all offences and was sentenced at Kingston Crown Court on 22 December to nine years and six months' imprisonment and also ordered to forfeit the seized cash, with the drugs, firearm and ammunition to all be destroyed.

Detective Sergeant Damian Hill, from the London Crime Squad, said, "I am pleased with the sentence of Moncur as this sends out a strong message to anyone considering carrying a firearm in London that you will face a lengthy time behind bars if you do this.

"Thanks to the excellent work of the officers in my team, and with the assistance from our colleagues from the Force Firearms Unit, we have been able to safely recover this gun and ammunition and prevent it from being used in further crimes. The fact that Moncur was also found in possession of a silencer and 49 rounds of ammunition means that a particularly dangerous criminal has now been taken off the streets."
