Drunken row over bitten finger ended with fatal stabbing

A man has been sentenced to life with a minimum of 15 years at Luton Crown Court for fatally stabbing his friend following an argument at the flat they shared in Fulham.

Daniel O'Gorman, 50 of Stephendale Road, SW6 was found guilty and sentenced last Friday (30th May) of murdering 49-year-old Tony Campbell.

A drunken fight broke out between the two men at the flat in Stephendale Road, SW6 on the evening of 16th October 2013.

Both O'Gorman and Mr. Campbell were taken to separate London hospitals. Tony died at hospital the following day from a stab wound to the liver.

On the day that his friend died, O'Gorman, was discharged from hospital and arrested for the murder. O'Gorman gave a largely 'no comment' interview, but at the scene he had admitted to police that he had picked up a knife and stabbed his friend after Tony had 'bitten his finger and thought it funny.'

Detective Chief Inspector Noel McHugh, of the Homicide & Major Crime Command, said: "What started as a petty, disagreement fuelled by alcohol ended with Tony Campbell paying with his life.

"Our thoughts are with Tony's wonderful family who have been so supportive during this investigation. I would also like to acknowledge the first officers who attended and fought so hard to save Tony's life."

A statement from the family of Tony Campbell said, "Tony was always there when needed and knowing that he has been taken from us all in this way is so difficult for us all to understand. His four children are without a dad to see or talk to ever again."
