"Mini Crime Wave" Hits Eel Brook Common

Police deal with robberies and minor assaults

The long hot evenings have seen a spate of minor crimes on Eel Brook Common, according to Parson Green and Walham Safer Neighbourhoods Team.

Police Sergeant Mick MacDonald reports: " Over the weekend we had a bit of a mini crime wave, with two robberies reported and a third which may have been a robbery or a straight forward assault. In addition, there have been three other minor assaults reported on the common over the weekend.

" This is actually more crime in one weekend than the common has suffered since the start of the year."

The crime wave includes the incident we previously reported, which saw a high speed chase across the common by a number of police on motorbikes and on foot last Thursday evening.

Says Mick: " This particular incident arose after police were called to a large group of youths fighting on the common with bottles. Officers responded and the group ran off in many different directions.

" One in particular took actions that could have seriously injured the pursuing officer. After a short chase a youth was arrested. He is currently on bail to return to the station pending a full investigation into the events.

" What I can say is that my team will be paying extra attention to the common, with a view to ensuring that this was a one-off weekend. "
