Staff take to Twitter to express their pride and praise their colleagues
Lesley Watts, Chief Executive of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust said: "Chelsea and Westminster Hospital has received 21 casualties, four of whom were children. We currently have five critically ill patients in the hospital and a small number of less seriously injured patients.
"Our major incident plans have been highly effective. Staff were mobilised rapidly to manage the sudden influx of patients and everyone worked together as a team.
"I want to thank all our staff, and our colleagues in the health, social care and emergency services, for the incredible work they have carried out today under difficult circumstances.
"Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this tragedy."
Though Ms Watts did not specify the injuries involved, Chelsea and Westminster has specialist burns units for both adults and children.
Hospital staff meanwhile have taken to Twitter to praise their colleagues and express their pride in the professionalism of the emergency teams.
