Chelsea and Westminster Calls the Midwife!

TV actress Helen officially opens hospital's Birth Centre

Helen, who plays posh midwife Trixie in the popular series, met the hospital's real life midwives midwives, along with mums and babies before viewing the centre.

The Birth Centre is aimed at women who are assessed as having low risk deliveries. Over 950 babies have been born since it opened its doors last year and it has proved to be very popular with mothers and midwives.

The centre has seven rooms with adjustable lighting and music players to help promote a relaxing birth environment. Four of the rooms have pools for women to use during their labour as well as other birthing aids to assist with delivery. There is also an opportunity to use aromatherapy to enhance the birthing experience.

Head of Midwifery at the hospital, Vivien Bell said: " We are delighted to be welcoming Helen and having the opportunity to show her our centre."

Afterwards, an equally delighted Helen tweeted @helen_george: " Brilliant afternoon with the midwives of @ChelwestFT opening their beautiful birthing centre, they make a mean lemon drizzle cake too".
