Cars and houses have been targeted in past fortnight
Police figures from the end of March to mid-April showed there were 54 crimes recorded in the fortnight, a 125% increase on the 24 crimes in the last reporting period.
There were four residential and five non residential burglaries reported.
There were four reports of theft from motor vehicles. One person reported being the victim of a pickpocket/ theft from person.
A police spokesman warned the public to be vigilant as the weather becomes warmer.
"The weather is improving, the heating has been switched off and doors and windows are being opened to help you stay cool. Make sure you lock up before going to bed or leaving the house, burglars will use any opening to gain entry to your home."
In relation to the recent dog theft outside Sainsbury, the police said that despite rumours of a spate of dogs being stolen it was still "a rare event", but he added that "dog owners should exercise caution if leaving their dogs unattended."
He added that another dog that went missing in the Chiswick area was found with the help of a Twitter campaign.
