40-year-old Desmond Sylva, who was charged with the murder of Simonne Kerr in Grayshott Road last Wednesday (August 15th), has appeared at the Old Bailey.

He spoke via videolink from Wandsworth Prison to confirm his identity and hear that he has a plea hearing in November and a provisonal trial date for February next year.

Ms Kerr, who live with Mr Sylva in Grayshott Road, was a nurse at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital who appeared on Britain's Got Talent as part of the B-Positive NHS Choir. She joined the choir after losing her young son to sickle cell disease three years ago.

The B Positive Choir, which raises awareness of blood donation, said, "Our thoughts are with Simonne's family at this tragic time. She was a valued member of the B Positive Choir who was passionate about blood donation following the loss of her son. We are devastated at the loss of a well-love choir member and friend."

Police were called on Wednesday (15 August) at 12.38pm to a report of a stabbing at a residential address in Grayshott Road.

A postmortem gave the cause of death as injuries consistent with stabbing.
