Help Survey the Butterflies on Wormwood Scrubs

No experience needed - just turn up in comfy footwear on Mondays

Community charity Groundwork is surveying the butterflies on the Scrubs every Monday until September (except bank holidays when the survey is on Tuesday) - unless the weather is so poor that the butterflies don't come out!

Butterfly surveys are done by walking a regular transect or route with marked stopping points and identifying and recording any butterflies seen along this route.

The idea is to build a map of where the different butterflies are found and create a list of the species that are present on the Scrubs. The data will be passed on to Butterfly Conservation and used to inform the future management of the Scrubs.

No experience is needed and the pace is fairly leisurely, so if you fancy a 2km lunchtime stroll around the Scrubs looking for butterflies you are invited to come along.

The survey takes place from 1pm - 2.30 pm and those taking part meet at the Wormwood Scrubs car park, just off Scrubs Lane, nearly opposite the Pavilion Pub.

All monitoring equipment and butterfly identification charts are provided.

As this is so weather dependent organiser Netty Ribeaux asks those coming along to please call her on her mobile on the day to check that it will be going ahead, on: 07890 195928. You can also email her at: netty.ribeaux@groundwork.org.uk
