Public invited to discuss plans to upgrade much loved green space

In the consultation, more than one in four people said improvements and repairs to the pond were the most important thing priority.

Another one in four said the playground was where they felt work needed to be done. The third most important were improvements to the disused bowling green.

"Thanks to suggestions from local residents, there are exciting proposals on the table for improving this vital green space," said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Cabinet Member for Environment.

"Why not come along to see the plans, and tell us what you think about how your suggestions are going to be put into action?"

The meeting on Friday 13 July is open to all and is at the Community Room, PlayFootball, 41 South Africa Road from 5pm-7pm.

There will be four sections running for 30 minutes each, starting at 5pm, 5.30pm, 6pm and 6.30pm, respectively, where the following will be discussed:

On July 29, from 12.30pm till 6pm, the park's famous Japanese Garden will host a Japanese Garden Party with live music, family activities and Japanese food to celebrate the regeneration of the garden, which is all that remains of the 1910 Japan-British Exhibition in White City, but few know it is a Japanese garden.

The party, hosted by the Japan Society, together with the Embassy of Japan and the Friends of Hammersmith Park, will unveil the first of those improvements in the shape of an avenue of stone lanterns and a wooden entrance gate.

There will also be taiko drumming, ramen, family friendly activities such as origami and calligraphy and two special performances by contemporary Japanese artists Ichi and Hatis Noit.

There is no need to book a place at the party - just drop in during the afternoon.
